Hello there. My name is Tiago

My Journey in Portugal

Upon graduating in 2015, In Portugal I worked in two private clinics. Across both jobs I rotated across different specialties including a mix Musculoskeletal and Neurological patients, Sports therapy, where I was responsible on assisting on the training sessions and games of a Handball Team. Also gain experience on delivering mobility and strengthen classes on a day centre. On the clinics had a partnership with a nursing home where I had the goal of maintaining/improving the quality of life of patients that were living there.

My Journey in United Kingdrom

In 2017, I moved to UK, to London to pursue the dream of working abroad. On the 2018 I was offered the opportunity to work for NHS at Intermediate Care Lambeth as a Rehabilitation Support worker. With time I progressed to Senior Rehabilitation Support Worker where I developed my clinical eye to get me ready to progress to become a Specialist Physiotherapist in Intermediate care Lambeth.

It happen in middle 2019 when I decided to apply for a Specialist Physiotherapist role at Intermediate care Lambeth. The experience that I had as a Rehabilitation Support worker and Senior Rehabilitation Support Worker made me realise that Community was here I wanted to work. So for one and half years I worked for Intermediate Care Lambeth as a Specialist Physiotherapist.

In 2020 I decided to see one other side of the rehabilitation in the community, and an opportunity came to become a Specialist Physiotherapist for Community Rehabilitation Falls Service, where I am at present. This Team is focusing on preventing further falls from patients by providing various services like 1:1 Physiotherapy, a 6 week input at clients property focusing on their community rehab goals (e.g. Progress outdoor mobility , increase functional balance to facilitate their daily activities) , Strength and Balance Groups, a 8 weeks program that run at Whittington Center in Streatham that as the objective of increase patient overall strength and functional balance to prevent falls ; Community Exercise Classes, that run on specific venues across the borough being given by a Postural Stability Instructor , Virtual Exercise Classes, run at patient houses that doesn’t have opportunity to be on the Strength and Balance groups a the Centre ; Falls Clinic Involvement where patients referred to it, will have a multidisciplinary assessment with various Allied Heath Professionals.

Who am I

Since early of my career I develop a passion about working with prevention. In the UK it made realise even more the importance of this word, “PREVENTION”. Both places where I worked, one regarding prevention of re-admission into the hospital and the other to prevent falls, gave a better understanding of what it is about.

At Present I believe that introducing prevention to day to day workers (e.g. Nursing assistance, office workers, bus drivers etc) is the key for reduction of the Ostheomuscular Disorders Related to Work (ODRW) and Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI).

This is where I want to specialize myself in so I can help day to days workers to thrive on their workplaces.
